Based on Darius & Twig by Walter Dean Myers, this Kennedy Center world premiere commission is adapted by Caleen Sinnette Jennings and directed by Eleanor Holdridge. Darius and Twig have been best friends since they were nine. Now 16, the two dream of finding a world beyond the confines of their daily lives on 145th Street in Harlem. Certainly, their talents are on their side: Darius is a highly intelligent writer and Twig is a gifted runner. But are the two free to use their gifts? A suspenseful, street-smart novel by acclaimed novelist Walter Dean Myers, Darius & Twig depicts a viscerally real setting in which young men must struggle to overcome obstacles by finding the best within themselves. Caleen Sinnette Jennings (Playwright)
Caleen Sinnette Jennings is an actor, director and playwright. She is a founding member of The Welders, a D.C. Playwrights’ Collective. Eight of her plays have been published by Dramatic Publishing Company, and her work has appeared in seven play anthologies. She has received playwriting awards from the Kennedy Center and The Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, as well as two Helen Hayes Awards nominations.
